The « Maison de la Violette » is located on the Canal du Midi, Toulouse, in front of the Matabiau railway station.
Come and discover why Toulouse is called the City of Violets. On board this authentic narrow boat, we will let you discover the history of this little flower, which gives the fame of Toulouse since 1850. This original place offers an exhibition site and a shop where you can find our tasty creations, perfumes, souvenirs from Toulouse. A special tearoom offers you a tasty resting place with pleasant colours and savours. On summer time, our terrace on the top deck becomes a tearoom and reading corner.
From Monday to Saturday, from 10am to 12.30pm and from 2pm to 7pm
Closed on Sunday and Monday in November and from January to March
Open during the yearly European Heritage Days (in September) and some public holidays (indicated on our website and calendar.)
We are located on the Canal du Midi, near the railway station and the media library, at the top of Jean Jaures Avenue.

The narrow boat history
The VULCAIN narrow boat, named since July 2000, « La Maison de la Violette », has been launched in Bordeaux on September 30th, 1930 by the Shell Company to carry oil. This boat had a 125 tons tank and could navigate on the Canal des Deux Mers: loaded in Bordeaux, it unloaded the oil near Sete, on the Mediterranean Sea.
In the 60’s, it was retired and was replaced by tanker, faster than boats.

As seasons go by, the activity on board varies. The access is free and we suggest for young and old, some tasting, garden workshop, exhibitions, cooking advices. We can welcome groups from 15 people on appointment.
